Saw this song on Sivin's blog and felt it stir something in me, especially the chorus. For many years I was frustrated about prayer -- what's the point of praying if God isn't going to act and respond the way you prayed for? Martina McBride sings,
God is great, but sometimes life ain't good When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should But I do it anyway
And that's true, isn't it? We do it anyway. She doesn't say why... but I remember the Twila Paris song, Do I Trust You [below, lyrics here]. It's a song that has always been very meaningful to me. It's a reminder that within the anguish and confusion and, yes, even doubt... when I ask myself whether I trust God, deep down I realise that the answer is a resounding yes. It doesn't make me less angry. It doesn't make me less hurt. It doesn't give me any answers. But it anchors me, somehow.
