Yes, laziness has a lot to do with it.
I am hungry. At 2:30am. Bah.
This evening I was in a supermarket with my housemate Sze Hui. I actually bought pasta sauce and macaroni.
"You are going to cook?!" Sze Hui said, incredulous.
"Why not? Pasta is the easiest thing to cook."
"You, of all people, are going to cook?"
"Well, there's nothing to eat inside the house."
"Are you sure you, The Wilful Sunflower, are going to cook?"
"Don't believe, is it?!"
See, I'm well-known among my housemates for not cooking :P
It's not so much the cooking, it's the washing-up. Bleargh. I do not like doing the dishes. But also, it seems so much wasted effort just to make a meal for one person. At least when you do it for someone else, there's somebody to (hopefully) appreciate your cooking. If you don't end up poisoning the other person first, that is.
I'm sure I could cook if I wanted to. It's not so much that I can't cook, as that I just don't cook. Mom used to say, "You must learn how to cook! If not, when you're married, how are you going to cook for your husband?" I used to tell her I'd learn if I had to. After all, how hard can it be to follow a recipe?
Maybe I'll conduct more explorations in this department now that I'm no longer working. Or maybe not. After all, I can drive out and get a plate of noodles for RM4. That seems like a lot less work.
