Ooo, more jobs

A blogger friend of mine used to have this saying: "Real life trumps blogging." Meaning that when real life and blogging start jockeying for position, real life is gonna win all the way.

I've been too busy to blog, can you imagine that? I meet friends for dinner after work, come home after 10pm, unwind by watching a little tv with my housemates or just chatting with them, then comes the major decision: blog or sleep? I used to choose blogging, but these days I have to be at work by 9am -- no longer the flexi hours I had when I was working from home -- so sleep wins :P

I'm working this weekend and will be working for the next three weekends, helping to promote a new toy that's just been brought in by one of the major toy companies here. I got this job on the recommendation of a friend; it's my first taste of what working in retail is like. Today I walked through the staff entrance of a large department store, past the unloading bay and the storage areas where huge boxes of stuff were piled to the ceiling. It was so raw compared to the glittery, glitzy attractive displays and neatly stacked racks of merchandise we always see inside the store.

Apart from this short-term promoting job on weekends and my weekday temp job, I've also been doing some freelance writing for whoever wants me to write. You can see that financially, I'm kinda living by the seat of my pants. For someone like me, who is big on security & certainty and hates change, this is RADICAL. But I'm starting to enjoy watching how God pops in and provides in unexpected ways. All the bits of income add up, merging into a sum that is enough to enable me to pay the bills and still eat.

I kinda feel like the Israelites receiving the manna: God gives me enough for every moment but I do not have the security of knowing where it will come from tomorrow, and I cannot stock up for the future either because I don't have enough for that! It's a lesson in trusting Him, I guess.
