Cash looks good right now

Yesterday I received an offer from a local university to pursue a Masters in Linguistics. So happy! I've been telling everybody that I plan to take this course, deep down wondering if I was being rather premature because I hadn't receieved the offer letter yet. Now it's really true! Only thing left is to figure out where to get MYR$2,300 from ;)

Talking about money -- which I shouldn't coz my Asian sensibilities say that's crass -- I'm actually in a bit of a tight spot because, while I do have a temp job, I'm not earning a great deal with it. Let's just say that I'm going to have to be REALLY careful about how I spend my money from now on, and leave it at that.

So Bob has helped me register for a Paypal account, by which any of you, my friends & readers, may -- if you are moved to do so -- make a donation to me. How large or small is entirely your choice. It's okay if you choose not to; I have many times wished I was able to help people when I was not in a position to be able to afford it.

The link is in the sidebar -- you can transfer an amount from your own Paypal account to mine, if you have one, or you can donate via credit card. If you are in Malaysia, you can transfer cash to my Maybank account -- please email me at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
if you wish to do so. (If you're not in Malaysia, and don't have a credit card or Paypal account, you can opt to use Western Union or Moneygram to donate.) There's more information about this donating stuff on the Why Donate? page. Okay, I'm cringing now. My Asian sensibilities are utterly outraged.

Gosh, I can't believe I just wrote all that. I don't like asking for money; I guess it's a pride thing. Like, I should be able to manage on my own, you know? After all, I don't have any disabilities, and it isn't like I can't hold down a job or anything. But well, I thought I'd put the link there just in case any of you have thought, "I would like to help but don't know know"...

I've seen God provide for me in unexpected ways this year, so not worrying about whether I'll have enough is getting a little -- just a little -- easier. Where all along I have been beating myself up for spending a little recklessly here & there (especially on books) and not being as careful with my money as I could have been, I suddenly realised that despite taking a monthly pay cut of nearly MYR$1,000 after leaving journalism in Oct 2005, I have managed pretty well and lived within my means during the whole of 2006. Hey, that's something to celebrate!
