Admin personnel: The silent heroes

I realise now why admin is so difficult. It's coz you have to do 20 things at once. In journalism, I only did four things, which were so much part of a whole that they merged into one: conduct research, find people to interview, interview them, and write articles. Of course most of the time I would be working on more than one article at the same time. But still, there wasn't the scatteredness of admin work.

If I had a team, things would be different too. But I'm a one-man show. In a larger organisation, you might be the one typing the letters, photocopying them and stuffing them into envelopes, but the office boy will drop them off at the post office. In a larger organisation, everybody has a much more specific role to play. Here, I'm the one running errands, doing banking, handling correspondence, dabbling in event management, coordinating stuff, updating the membership database, AND sitting in on meetings with each of the organisation's sub-committees. Sometimes I feel like I need to be Superwoman.

I'm not complaining. It's been an eye-opener. I swear to be very, very nice to all admin people from now on.
