In which I sleep like the dead

image from http://www-scf.usc.edu/~anordinI can't believe it. I woke up at 3:30 this afternoon.

I mean, yes, I slept at around 4am in the morning, but still--! Mind you, I'm currently sleeping on the upstairs landing coz I'm still sleeping on the floor, and there's not enough space in my room for me to do that. My best friend Janelle said, "Aren't there people walking around?"

Yes, well, I never hear them. I'm always the last one in the house to wake up, and this whole week I've been sleeping on the upstairs landing and I have successfully managed to remain completely oblivious to any and all actvity around me.

"You'd think, since you're not in your own bed, and the hard floor is not the most comfortable place to sleep on, you'd sleep a little less soundly," Janelle said, amazed.

What can I say? Sure, the floor is hard (I don't even put a sleeping bag on it), but I've always been blessed with the ability to sleep anywhere, at almost any time -- and sleep like a log, at that. Back during college days, a former roommate once told me she'd yelled, "Fire! Fire!" in an attempt to wake me up. Needless to say, it didn't work.

"Why would the word 'fire' help to get me up?" I asked, very reasonably. "It's not even my name! You should call 'Sunflower', then you might have a better chance of waking me!"

And last night I slept almost 12 hours straight. What's up with that?

My sleep schedule is screwed, that's for sure. It's so hot in the daytime that I tend to work at night (remember, I now work from home) and sleep anywhere from 4 to 6am. Then I wake up around noon and another day begins. I'm a nocturnal creature, I am.

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Mom always used to scold me for turning "day into night and night into day". But since my desktop computer is upstairs in my room, and the upstairs area is like a sauna in the daytime, I work best at night. Anybody have an old laptop to donate to me? Just for doing word processing. Or know of one that's going dirt-cheap? Otherwise, I guess I'll just continue with my usual routine :)
