Rich in friendships, albeit cyber ones
I'm leaving Sabah tomorrow and can't wait to get home. Petaling Jaya is now my home, since the parents are no longer in my hometown. This year I had to do lots of explaining in the run-up to Chinese New Year.
Friend: "So, will you be going back to celebrate the Chinese New Year with your family?"
Me: "Yes, I'll be flying to Sabah on [insert day here]."
Friend: "Oh, your hometown is in Sabah?"
Me: "No, it's in ___________, but my parents moved to Sabah two months ago..."
*sigh*
The three highlights of my stay here were 1) meeting Dee, a fellow blogger, for the first time & hanging out with her, 2) getting to have a loooooong talk with Dad one night about life and career and being brave enough to step out of one's comfort zone, and 3) Dad buying a computer! FINALLY! lol
Dee and I have had a rip-roaring time together. She's been soooooo kind to me, and my parents will love her forever... *guffaws*
I've always been amazed by the kindness and open-heartedness of my fellow bloggers. People who are, to all intents & purposes, strangers, some even living on the other side of the world, have always been willing & ready to lend a hand whenever I ask for help. Especially when it comes to tech advice & assistance! (Hats off to Eric Siegmund, Jonathan Fox, Jason Wall, Mac Swift (no longer blogging), Kevin, Kevin Davis, and Dean Peters... I hope I didn't miss out anyone. Bob, you're not in this list coz you became a blogger only a year after I'd been blogging. But you know how much I value you & your tech know-how
)
It's funny coz yeah, there are a lot of liars and con-men out there in cyberspace, but I've had the great good fortune to meet the good guys about 98% of the time. The other 2% were weirdos -- non-threatening, just slightly irritating or creepy, that's all. The best part is meeting people with whom I just 'click', like Dee, and having the most wonderful time laughing together, sharing stories, going shopping. Imagine how much poorer I'd have been if I had never started blogging and never met any of you guys, whom I now count among my friends. Now to find a way to explain all this to my parents!
