Aiyoyo... blog in Malay?!
Once upon a time, a group of bloggers got together and began chatting over MSN Messenger. Malaysia's Independence Day was fast approaching, and in a fit of patriotism, insanity, mischief and jiak bar bo kang jo-ness (Hokkien for "stomach already filled so got nothing better to do"), these five wonderful Malaysian bloggers decided to blog in the country's national language on Independence Day.
Not content with that, they sneakily embarked on a drive to recruit other unsuspecting bloggers into doing the same. Obviously, this was to ensure that they wouldn't be the only ones making a fool of themselves. -- Did I really say that? Uh... what I meant was... obviously, this was because they generously wanted to spread the joy and fun and patriotic spirit around... 
Independence Day -- or Merdeka Day, as it's known here ("merdeka" meaning "freedom" in Malay) -- falls on Aug 31. I've almost promised Eyeris to blog in Malay on that day, although I did leave myself a loophole by telling him it depends whether I find myself in the mood to do so when the day rolls by. "Perempuan punya pasal... semua bergantung kepada mood," I wrote in his comments section -- "You know women... everything hinges on their moods". I hope none of my female readers kill me for that one!!
It doesn't make much difference, I guess, coz I'm sooooo dead anyway. I haven't used Malay ever since I left school at 18, after Form 5. For the benefit of my non-Malaysian readers -- in school, everything is taught in Malay: geography, history, chemistry, biology, physics, maths, economics, accounting... EVERYTHING. English is a single subject in the syllabus. But then after leaving school, I went to private college where everything is taught in English. And have not looked back ever since. Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
So, my fellow Malaysian bloggers, come join us and blog in Malay on Aug 31. Coz if I'm going to have to look silly, I want to make others look silly along with me!!! 
And what would a project be without banners? BANNERS! BANNERS!
