The amazing people I live with
I have the most wonderful lovely housemates in the entire world. They help me clean. What more can I say?
You see, cleaning is not my favourite thing to do (understatement of the century!!). Therefore, it amazes me that anybody would volunteer to help me to clean anything. And nobody had ever helped me to clean before, until I moved into this house.
Oh, I do my share of "house chores", because there is a fifty-dollar fine attached for failure to perform the weekly chore by Monday night. But when it comes to my room... let's just say I have a high tolerance for messiness and leave it at that.
Kind-hearted Adeline once spring-cleaned my room when I was away on vacation, and for a while she was even helping me do laundry(!) -- putting my clothes in the machine and hanging them out to dry, then taking them in when they were done. I don't want to make this sound like I don't do laundry, because I do; but I only do it when I run out of clean clothes to wear, or when I want to wear an item of clothing that needs a wash. I'm a terrible, terrible procrastinator. Adeline saw this and offered to help me out.
Then Adeline went away for a few months, because she was temporarily working out-of-state, and Sharon moved in. Sharon is the cleanest, neatest person I know -- she sometimes cleans the house for fun -- and she one day offered to help me do laundry too. I think maybe it's got to do with wanting more clothes to put in the machine to make up a full load, but anyway, she began to help me out. Sometimes she even folds the clothes for me.
As if that were not enough... over the weekend that just passed, I rearranged all the furniture in my room and spring-cleaned the place from top to bottom, sorting out papers, throwing away stuff that was no longer needed or relevant, and so on. Dion came to me and asked, "Can I help?" Gosh, I'm not sure I'd ever say that to anyone if the task in question involved cleaning, but she did! She helped me vacuum, and wipe the dust off various surfaces. You know that saying, "Many hands make light work"? Well, I discovered the truth of it for myself. Between Dion and I, things got done much faster than I would have been able to do alone. I am so BLESSED in my housemates. *clasps hands to bosom and sighs theatrically, but nonetheless sincerely*
I feel so bad when others help me clean, though, coz it's something I hate to do, so I feel like I'm taking advantage of their kindheartedness and it's like I'm evading my responsibility or something. But I still feel that I have the most wonderfullest housemates in the entire world! I don't know what I ever did to deserve this, but thank You, God!!! And thank you, guys -- I am so blessed to have you in my life -- yes, you too, Sock Hui and Emmy. All of you enrich my life in ways beyond imagining.
