Bye-bye, tv
I drove 4 hours just to get to sleep lots in an air-conditioned hotel room and comfortable bed. I can't believe I slept that much. Usually, when I'm tired, I don't give myself permission to sleep; I just push myself to stay awake and do whatever needs doing or whatever I want to do. But there I was... zonking out as soon as I arrived & checked in at 5pm. Imagine!
Anyway, I'm back from holiday, hopefully no longer sleep-deprived (like that's gonna last long, haha!). And when I got back, I found out that I might not have to grit my teeth over chronic channel-surfers anymore, because the owner of our tv wants her tv back. She used to stay with us, but when she moved out she temporarily left her tv behind for us to enjoy. Now she's gonna take it back. Even though I'm not very attached to the tv, I still find myself wanting to hold on to it a little longer...
I realised when I was on holiday over the past few days, that I am almost never tempted to turn on the tv to see what's on. Whaddya know, childhood upbringing DOES condition you after all! I've been on business trips and stayed in countless hotel rooms, and almost all the time I only turn the tv on once, to flip through all the channels and see what they have, then turn it off -- and off it remains for the duration of my stay.
While I can live without tv, the tv area in our house is sort of like a congregating area. Without the tv, I don't know whether everybody will disappear into their rooms to do their own thing. That's... a bit scary, you know?
