Potong stim

I finally went to my gym yesterday for the first time. By the way, the person who designed the gym company's website should be shot. Not only do they specify that the site be viewed on a 1024x768 screen resolution, broadband Internet access is also stated as one of the requirements to view the thing! Like broadband is something you can get just with a flick of the fingers or click of a button. This makes just as much sense as their "no cash payments" policy. Seems almost snobbish, eh?

Where was I? Oh yeah, I went to the gym for the first time. I've never been to a gym before, never mind such a big one, so I felt very jakun -- like a country girl coming to the city for the first time kinda thing. Didn't have a clue what to do or how to work any of the machines, so I went to the counter and asked the receptionist if I could speak to a personal trainer.

A trainer called Jeff came along and took me on a 'tour' of the facilities, gave me the schedule of the various classes held at the gym (pilates, body step, yoga, aerobics, etc.), and basically helped me to get an idea of what everything is for and where everything is. He also said the personal fitness assessment and individual training programmes will only be done after Hari Raya Aidilfitri -- a Muslim celebration marking the end of the holy fasting month -- next week. Bummer. I was looking forward to that, coz I really need some direction and guidance here. I like the idea of exercising in order to meet goals. (In my case: to improve overall fitness and become a svelte 55kg once again.)

I have to say that although their payment collection policies and their website may be a little off-putting, their frontline staff are very friendly and helpful. Of course, you say, the staff are paid to do that! But it indicates good training and high standards, I think. Maybe they're only snobbish until they see you can afford their services, then they become very nice to you? After all, Messy Christian says my gym's rates are more expensive than those of Fitness First.

I came ready to start working out, but was unable to coz I didn't have a padlock with me for the changing room lockers, so I couldn't put my stuff away safely. That was so potong stim, as my housemates and I like to say. (A Malay slang phrase expressing feelings of letdown & disappointment.) I plan to go again tomorrow morning, coz although it's a public holiday -- it's Deepavali, a Hindu festival -- the gym will be open from 8am to 10pm.

Just a few days ago I got another SMS from Dad telling me to lose weight, so I'm totally looking forward to finally geting into some kind of exercise routine. Hopefully in a few months' time Mom & Dad won't be able to make so much noise about this issue anymore! *long-suffering look*
