It rrrrings
Talk about the wonders of technology. There I am in the office washroom, minding my own business, when my mobile phone rings. Do I answer it?
Most of the time I do, although the hollow echo-ey sound can be a dead giveaway. And if somebody happens to flush, well, I just wince and pretend I didn't hear anything. Maybe -- just maybe -- the person at the other end of the line didn't, either? Well, one can always hope... *grin*
It's funny coz when I first heard about mobile phones, I thought the idea of being accessible to people 24/7 no matter where you were was rather, err, excessive. And when I first got one, in my final year of university, I didn't even bring it to class. Why would I? I can't take calls in class, right?
But although it seemed perfectly logical to me, my friends howled. "What? You DIDN'T BRING YOUR PHONE?! Then what's the point of having one??!"
Eventually, just like practically everyone else I know, I got kinda surgically attached to my phone. I almost never go anywhere without it unless I either a) forget to bring it along, b) am only going out for a few minutes, or c) am in "hermit" mode. Yup, some days I just wanna get away from the world, so I put the thing on silent mode (not even vibrate!) and just don't look at it the whole day. Otherwise I might just "accidentally" say yes to a friend who wants to meet up for lunch, go watch a movie, or do some shopping. I have this bad habit of saying yes to people, you see.
Anyway, so yeah, if I'm carrying my mobile phone in my pocket, it goes wherever I go -- even to the washroom. And if it rings, I usually do answer, mainly coz it's easier to answer calls the first time than have to return the call later. (I'm a lazy creature.) Besides, there's nothing I do in the washroom that requires too many brain cells, so distraction is not a problem. But the whole idea of having a serious discussion with someone who's in the midst of, um, unmentionable business is rather gross, isn't it?
At least I have never dropped my phone into the toilet bowl!!!
