Five questions
There's this "5 questions" thing going around the BlogWorld. (I refuse to say the word "blogosphere"... oops, just said it!)
Bryan has devised five questions just for me. Bryan, did you have to ask such HARD questions?!!
...And yes, that IS my excuse for taking so long to answer them :P
- Share your most interesting adventure as a writer.
Each assignment is kind of like an adventure in itself. I think one that stands out in my mind was being sent to Parliament on my THIRD day on the job.It was Budget Day. I went with a team, of course, and I was told to grab the MPs/Cabinet Ministers as they walked out of the House. "Get their opinions on the Budget," The Boss said. I was given a list of people to look out for, but, since I have always been totally disinterested in politics, I couldn't have recognised any of them for the life of me.
So I went upstairs to our in-house library and asked the librarian to pull up archived photos of the illustrious personages... and tried to memorise what they looked like, making notes such as "Big nose, a bit balding, grey hair". LOL
I was so new, I didn't even have a tape recorder, and had to borrow one from a senior. The place was crawling with members of the media. All the key ministers were mobbed the moment they appeared, so I let the other journalists ask the intelligent questions; all I did was to stick my tape recorder in and record everything!
Sometimes I didn't even know who the person was. After he departed, I'd ask the journalist next to me, "Eh, who was that?" I think they must have been thinking, "What kind of reporter is this?!"
I heard recently that Newsdesk once sent a guy to Parliament on Budget Day, and it was his FIRST day at the job - he resigned the very next day! I don't know what it says about him, or me, that I not only stayed, but thought it all very amusing (after it was over, that is! Before that, I was terrified!).
- Describe your relationship with your father in five simple sentences or less.
I chatter about my doings so he won't feel shut out.
I ask his advice to show him I still need him.
We don't speak of feelings, hopes, dreams or anything intangible.
I hide my weaknesses and failures from him.
I would never presume to tease him. - What is the biggest misconception about Malaysian culture?
I haven't mixed with enough non-Malaysians to answer this. In my experience, many Americans don't even know what/where Malaysia is! :D
- What would you be doing right now if time & expense weren't an issue?
Sitting in an air-conditioned room on a big, comfortable bed, reading a book with soft/classical music playing in the background.
Kidding... sort of.
Seriously, I'd like to travel to Europe, to look at church architecture, visit all the places I've only heard about, see castles and ruins of castles, linger in museums and art galleries...
- Give us the link to the most inspiring thing you've ever read on the blogosphere.
Wow, this is like the most impossible question! I read lots and lots of blogs and see so many inspiring things. I can tell you that the two most inspiring blogs in the Blogosphere (gee I can't believe I said that word again!) are Real Live Preacher and Fallible. I love them. Another inspiring one is Looking Back... Looking Forward.
I haven't read any one thing on the Blogosphere that impacted me so much as to stand out from everything else - or if I have, I can't remember it at the moment :D
