Online petition

As I wrote on Apr 9, the Iban translation of the Bible (Bup Kudus) has been banned by the Home Ministry.

Acting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi later said that the Bible "contained certain words which the Government felt was wrongly translated."

He said that government officials had met the Iban church leaders and informed them of this but the church leaders explained that the words were the correct terms.

"We will study the matter and will review the ban if we decide it is not 'a problem'."

Another report said he had brought the matter up in the Cabinet meeting and would meet the Council of Churches of Malaysia to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, Christians in Malaysia have launched a petition to the Ministry for the ban to be lifted. Malaysians may sign the petition online here.

Update: The ban has been lifted! Praise God!!! (Thanks to Anthony for the heads up)
