35 books banned in Malaysia

A friend alerted me to this article: 35 books, detrimental to public peace, banned

One of the books that the Home Ministry has deemed so detrimental to public peace is the Iban translation of the Bible, Bup Kudus, published by the Bible Society of Malaysia. Ibans are a tribal people in East Malaysia (on Borneo Island).

The other books were in Indonesian, a close relative of Malay, our national language. Five other books affected were:

  • Metode Penelaahan Alkitab (Bible Study Methods) by Dick & Tinem Maitimoe, Publisher: Scripture Union Indonesia.

  • Seri Pemahaman Doktrin Alkitabiah: Dunia Kepunyaan Allah (Understanding Bible Doctrine Series: This Is God's World) by JI Packer. Publisher: Scripture Union Indonesia.

  • Seri Pemahaman Doktrin Alkitabiah: Dunia Kepunyaan Allah (Understanding Bible Doctrine Series: This Is God's World) by Arthur E.Cundall. Publisher: Scripture Union Indonesia.

  • Mengenal Tulisan Perjanjian Baru (Introducing the New Testament) by I.Suharyo Pr. Publisher: Kanisius Publishing House

  • Sejarah Singkat Liturgi Barat (Short History of Western Liturgy) by Theodor Klauser. Publisher: Kanisius Publishing House
No explanation was given, from what I gather. But then, since when were citizens ever entitled to an explanation from their governments?
