My room
I saw my room today for the first time. Madelyn wasn't kidding when she said it was square-ish!
There is no ceiling fan. In a country where the temperature hovers around 86-95ーF (30-35ーC) in the daytime all year round, a fan is a necessity. Air-conditioning is a luxury.
I toyed with the idea of getting a ceiling fan fixed, but I think it would be too wide for the room. Plus it would cost lots of $$ and would be a permanent fixture I could always take it with me when I next move, but it would be a lot of hassle.
The next best thing is a stand fan. Years ago, I had one which I left with one of my uncles when I didn't need it any longer. Their family has been using it ever since. I'm wondering if I can ask for it back...
Sure, he's an opthmologist (eye surgeon) and could probably afford to buy zillions of fans, but then, he's been very generous to me and I don't want to look calculative. "Oh, uncle, you know that fan in your dining room? It actually belongs to me, and I need it now. Can I have it back?" That doesn't sound quite right to me...
I'll have to call Dad and talk this over with him. This uncle is his brother, after all.
There are no curtain rails over the windows. Bob's wife said she would give me her old curtains if I wanted them, and I'm thinking of installing a curtain rail. But who will do the drilling and fix it up for me? If Dad were here, I could ask him to do it Dad knows all this stuff. He's always been Mr Fix-It around the house. When I was a kid, I thought he could do anything; I still think so. Thank God for practical parents. *grin*
All in all, the room isn't quite what I expected, and it's not really what I was hoping for. But it's OK; I can "make do" (oh, that hated phrase!). :)
I do however refuse to "make do" with my portable plastic cupboard anymore. It's the kind that consists of a plastic sheath over a metal frame assembled from various lengths of metal poles. The opening zips up right in the middle. I want a proper cupboard. Dear me, there are a lot of things I want. But this one can't be put off any longer.
