It HAD to happen
Just when I was thinking I hadn稚 had a misadventure in a fairly long time, one simply has to come along.
(My last major misadventure occurred in September. Before that, this blog was simply known as 溺usings, but I decided that the new name would be much more appropriate! *grin*)
Tonight I was on my way to Janelle痴 place to pass something to her when I realised I壇 better check whether the something was with me in the first place. So I pulled over to the side of the road.
For some reason the local authority had decided to dig up the tarred surface at the roadside. Where road should have been, there was now only the underlying sand and gravel. Which meant my car went thunk! from the road surface onto said sand and gravel, a pretty steep step down. (I didn稚 see that coming. Go figure. *rolls eyes*)
Of course, when I tried to get back onto the road, my tires ground against the edge of the tarred surface and couldn稚 go up. 徹h no, I think I知 stuck! I exclaimed. Profound observations do tend to spring to mind in the weirdest situations
I got out of the car, walked round it, assessed the situation, and decided to try moving forward and repositioning the car. Guess what? It wouldn稚 move forward! After all the force of trying to push the car up onto the road, the front wheels had ground a nice little hole in the ground and were yes, here comes that word again stuck.
I did what any smart girl would have done I turned on my hazard lights and called one of my uncles. Naturally, I was horribly embarrassed coz I壇 just left his house 5 minutes ago. 釘ye, Uncle, goodnight, Uncle, suddenly became, 填ncle, could you come? I need help! And I know what all of you are thinking: Incompetent women drivers *laughs*
Here痴 the good part: before my uncle could arrive, a motorist stopped to ask me what was wrong. Now, I thought he was my uncle. You must understand that it was about 10pm and it was dark and my uncle rides a motorbike. So I thought it was my uncle, and I got out of the car to explain my predicament.
But it WASN探 him! And I was already talking to the guy (that痴 me, start talking straight away without waiting to verify the fella痴 identity veeeeery clever!), so I couldn稚 very well just stop talking, get back in the car and lock myself inside. In my heart I was thinking, 敵ood heavens, there痴 this male stranger, and here I am, a lone female, and it痴 dark this is so dangerous! What if he tries something?
Well, another car stopped and my uncle came around and the three men helped to lift my car as I stepped on the gas. We managed to get the car back on the road (after many vrrooooms!); then the two strangers simply went back to their vehicles and continued on their way. I didn稚 even have a chance to thank them!
I think my faith in the basic kindness of human nature has just been restored :)
