HUGE misadventure
You will not believe what I did on Friday. My paper's running a crossword puzzle contest, and KC asked me to drop off her entries for her. At the same time, she passed me an envelope with a cheque to pay for ads that her company had run in my paper. I was supposed to pass the cheque to the accounts department.
So I went to work, and because the crossword puzzle entries had to be in the box by noon, I went straight to the foyer and slotted them in. Then I rushed off to a briefing.
After the briefing, I realised that the cheque wasn't with me! I distinctly remembered taking it out of the car, but I went down to the basement and double-checked anyway. Nope, it wasn稚 there! Eek!
I figured that I had probably dropped it into the crossword puzzle box together with the entries, by accident. I wasn't 100% sure, but there just wasn't anywhere else I could have misplaced it. So I had to go see the people who were sorting out the puzzles.
Security around the puzzles is so tight that I wasn't allowed to go through them and look for the cheque myself. The people in charge said they would contact me if they found any such letter. I was hyperventilating! "KC would kill me if she knew," I thought. "Trust me to be so scatterbrained and absent-minded isn稚 that just something that I would do?!"
I hadn't intended to tell KC, but she emailed me that afternoon and I thought I had better let her know in case they couldn't find it. At least she could get her company to cancel the cheque and reissue a new one. So in the end I told KC and I think if she could have reached through the Internet connection to strangle me, she would have!!
"That cheque is for more than $100K!" she exclaimed. "And if it's late, we'll be fined $2K!" Erk! Luckily it was only due on Wednesday, so there was still time to reissue the cheque if necessary. "My mom is very VERY upset!" (her mom works in her company痴 administration dept) Oops...
Thank God, the cheque was discovered late in the afternoon and I rushed downstairs to collect it, then rushed up to 13th floor and handed it in to Accounts. No way was I going to take any chances that it might get lost again! And so, disaster was averted! hehee
I have just decided to rename this blog from simply "Musings" to "Musings and Misadventures of Sunflower"... hahaa...
